From what it seems, the drones will deploy when any unit enters their range, and will only self repair if units leave the range area, and re-enter it again.
That's only what others are syaing so far, but it seemed like the drones just keep self repairing to me, no matter if units stay in range, or move in and out of it.
I'll try and get someone to attack my base and find out when the event is over (everyone is busy repairing so won't attack lol)
