Overview

There are four main classes of units, namely Infantry, Vehicle, Aircraft and Mercenary. In order to use a unit in battle, first it has to be unlocked by the player, after which it can be built, upgraded and customized.

There are many factors that can affect a player's choice of units for different battles, for example a PvP[1] unit is restricted to PvP battles and a defensive unique to defensive missions. Ground units can't attack island bases and air units can't attack cave bases.

In all sections of this portal, units have been sorted in order of introduction (newer ones op top). While a unit's effectiveness depends on many factors, main stats (e.g. Health, Range) play a key role, making newer generations generally superior.

Faction units

Faction era units belong to one of the three playable factions, Survivors, Corpus and Sentinels, including all units of Generations I, II, III, IV and Series I. Series I units, representing the latest advancement of the factions technology, are immune to the Darkness Aura and use a fixed unlock cap for each unit.

Generation From Till Number Features
Generation I Oct 2016 May 2017 15 Faction, Training token
Generation II Jul 2017 Jan 2018 7 Unit talent
Generation III Mar 2018 Nov 2019 20 Second unit talent, Semi-limited unlock[2]
Generation IV Dec 2019 Sep 2020 15 Faction talent, Upgrade logistics
Series I Nov 2020 Now 6 Darkness aura immunity, Hard-capped unlock

While faction allegiance doesn't restrict the availability of units, a faction unit can benefit from its faction talent and faction's trait only if the player is aligned to that faction and has no trait breaking unit/structure deployed in the battle.

Trait breaking unit/structures include:

  • Structures[3] and controllable[4] units belonging to a different faction.
  • Neural units, with a few exceptions[5].

Traits:

  • Warlust: Survivor units deal more damage the more units of any type die in combat. This damage bonus is capped at 100% and is reset when the battle instance ends.
  • Loyalty: Survivor units take 10% reduced damage.

Corpus-Logo.png Corpus

Traits:

  • Adaptive defenses: Corpus units can not take more than 15% of their Maximum Health in damage from any given projectile.
  • Loyalty: Corpus units take 10% reduced damage.

Sentinels-Logo.png Sentinels

Concept art - Sentinels

Traits:

  • Devotion: Sentinels units are immune to all negative Status Effects.
  • Loyalty: Sentinels units take 10% reduced damage.

Mercenary

Mercenaries, introduced during Operation: Iron March in July of 2014, are single-use units that use Drop Pods to deploy into battle. Being single use means each instance of a mercenary unit can be deployed once and is discarded after the battle ends. Using Drop pods enables Mercenaries to be deployed almost anywhere in the field of battle.

Defensive Unique

These units can be used in defense only, whether in base, platoon fight or in Holdout.

Neutral

Units that don't belong to any faction, and therefore can not benefit from any traits.

Legendary

Legendary units' use case is exclusive to PvP battles, and therefore can only be placed in base[6] and PvP platoons.

Unique

Only one instance of any unique unit can be produced.

Special forces

SF units gain their levels through a system called Rank. Rank[7] of each individual unit is independent from other units of the same type and is determined based on how many Veteran Experience that unit has gained in battles. SF infantry can be added to platoons only as Fireteams.

Limited

Legacy

Legacy units include the game's original units and those introduced from 2011 till October 2015[8], during which, 63 units in this category were introduced. These units have smaller models and considerably lower stats compared to newer units.

Hero / Commander

A Hero (or Commander) is a special version of another unit, with a production limit of one and enhancements over the standard version of the unit.

Rogue

Units used by Rogue Factions only, and therefore can not be unlocked by players. Rogue units may benefit from traits of their factions, if it has any, under all curcumstances, even when fighting alongside units of a different faction.

Descendants units take less damage from most of the sources. Exceptions include, but may not be limited to, all Series I units and Luke.

Boss

There are 2 categories of Boss units:

  • Shadow Ops Boss: a special version of the unique units released through Shadow Ops, usually in a Boss Base which awards elite parts and medals upon winning the battle.
  • Rogue Boss: Strong units that usually appear in the last base of a track in some events.

Retired

Units that were previously playable but have been completely removed from the game and therefore are no longer available for use by Players or Rogue Factions.

  4. Drone silo units are not controllable and therefore don't break faction traits.
  5. Shadow Sarkis and Mercenaries don't break faction traits, despite being neutral.

  7. The term rank is solely used to refer to level of Special forces.
