Okay, so, this is how nowadays upgrading works:

Unit ► Elite ► Omega/X.

If you somehow get the unit or the elite/omega variant, you can keep it like it is.

The unit takes a certain number of "parts" that can be won in PvE base raids to 'evolve' the unit (since 'upgrade' applies between levels, not variants) into a more powerfull one.

Unit ► Elite takes X parts (you can see this on the tech center, just as any other unit in the game).

Elite ► Omega/X also takes X parts (can differ the number from Unit ► Elite if Kix wants to change it)

This page right here, is for the ELITE variant of the unit; if you get your unit to the Omega variant, please check this page instead.

In these days, levels can be confussing to understand, since you can't compare the levels shown between the Viper/Elite/X variants on the Sandstorm/Elite/Omega ones.

In this case, the Viper is an OLD unique unit, thus keeps their variants as different units to achieve in the game.

The Sandstorm does NOT keep this kind of upgrading mechanism, so:

Base unit (lvl I-2O)► Elite variant (lvl 2I-3O)► Omega variant (3I-4O).

In this 'new era' of the game, you can consider the Sandstorm as a replacement for the Titan (though they can keep each other at the same pace anytime).
